Malaria Monday!

Today was the day I started my Anit-Malaria drugs. I was VERY nervous about it, and was especially dreading the horrible side effects that I keep reading about. Tino and I are both healthy and young so when I first brought it to my Dr's attention that we are travelling to the Dominican, she instantly told me I had to take this medicine. Its not that its super high risk, but since the Haiti Earthquake, there are more Mosquito's around that could be carrying it, so better safe then sorry. So far so good, no side effects yet!

Tomorrow is my husbands 33rd birthday. We are going to celebrate with dinner and crave cupcakes. I bought him and Hour massage for saturday, i can't wait for him to open it.

Only a handfull of sleeps till our holiday. We booked a room at the Delta airport to start our vacation one day earlier, and we can just walk accross to catch our flight. I'm So excited...we have so much to look forward too

Spring!!

I think is here, I really feel that spring is here to stay. I don't believe in jinxing it, so i'm just gonna say it loud and clear.....SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!

Today i raked the yard and swept out the garage. The joys of owning a home, is that it come's with a yard. The downfall of owning a home is that it comes with a yard!! I never did a winter clean up so i've got lots of leaves and TONS of rabbit turds everywhere. All the snow is gone and raked most of the winter mold off. In the midst of it all i found a dead mouse. My heart stopped for a second, and i jumped back. How could i not go closer and check it out, I didn't touch it, but i kept looking at it! How some small dead creature can scare a human being so much. I really didn't like it, although it looked cute with brown fur and tiny ears.......I still didn't like it. Tino will have to take care of that one when he gets home.

I also had lunch with a friend and bought a few summer things for our trip. Tonight i'm having dinner with Lisa. I'm enjoying my DEENA weekend while Tino is in Lethbridge for soccer! The sun is shinning, life is beautiful!

Costco...

I was off today, I didn't pick up a shift as its my off week. I managed to get ALOT accomplished, cleaned the house, did all the laundry and washed our bedding. Having a king size bed is work when it comes to changing the sheets, i'm usually sweating and out of breath by the time its over.

This afternoon i ventured out to pick up a few things for our trip. Sunscreen is So expensive. We use the Loreal stuff because there is no scent. I bought a 15 and a 30 spf. I also bought a 45 and 60 spf coppertone, and a 30 spf for faces only. The older I get the more i'm carefull about the sun. The bonus of not getting a burn is that my tan always lasts way longer if I don't burn.

We can hardly wait to get on the plane and Jet out. We already picked our seats and i check out our tickets everyday...its hilarious!! Its coming very soon. We have never been to the Dominican Republic, but the beaches look stunning and our Resort is top of the line. I can't wait to sit back relax and enjoy the week. The only downfall is we start Malaria drugs on Monday, just to be careful. Due to the Earthquake in Haiti there is the possibilty so better safe then sorry.

The whole point of this blog was to talk about Costco. I LOVE costco and Tino hates it. We usually go together and spend about an hour but since I had the day I went on my own. I missed his muscles when it came to loading and unloading. Just a word of advice, bring your reusable grocery bags, its way easier then the boxes they have and then you don't have to recycle them either. Anyways today I went to Costco Hungry hahaha BAD IDEA. Everything look so good, but I held back and just bought a few things. We had the pre made lasagna for dinner with the ceaser salad and i made some chiabata garlic toast. I got that idea from Rachel Ray. It was really good......until next time..

Confession...

I have to make a confession, and I know I'm not the only to tell everyone this, because a fellow co-worker made the same confession today.....here is goes....

I WATCH THE BACHELOR.....I actually PVR it, and plan my monday night around it. I won't even add my opinion on how I feel about Jakes decision..I kind of think he's a loser.....

So, tonight i Molly's and Jason's wedding, and I"m gonna be watching it. I have to shower before so i can go to sleep when its over because i'm on the early shift...

and, just a side note, we booked a vacation to Punta Cana, some 5 star resort with a Butler hehehehe I can't wait!

General Anaesthesia

Do you know the difference between general and local anaesthetic?? General is when you go to sleep and local is just freezing like at that Dentist.

Today I worked in our Old interventional scanner where we do procedure's like biopsy, abdominal drains ( that are very stinky and look like pea soup) insert chest tube's and sometime fancy things like today. Since I've been in CT i miss out on going to the OR so when we get to work closely with an Anesthesiologist...( the Dr who puts you to sleep) its a nice change. I think they have the coolest job yet. It looks so easy once they get the patient to sleep, they usually sit with there feet up, play good music, and read the paper. Its really not so simple, they have a HUGE responsibility when it comes to the patient with drugs like propofol, that's the stuff Micheal Jackson died from and they also have to insert a breathing tube, and gas the patients...that's why everyone just stays sleeping during every procedure!!

Here is a picture of the Machine that keeps you asleep, its got ALOT of bells and whistles and connects to the special Gas and Ventilator. I find it fascinating.

Here is the all the equipment used to care for the patient and keep them asleep, huge drug cart, the anaesthesia machine, and then the monitor, it was just like being in the operating room again.

Today the procedure that we preformed was called a Sacral Kyphoplasty! In short terms, our Radiologist put cement into the sacrum. Pretty cool when you think about it. They can also do that in the spine, when you break a vertebral body, and it helps to maintain or stabilize the fracture. Here is a picture with no names or any faces involved of the procedure, the Dr'.s were mixing the cement.

I even got to use my iPhone because the cement dries in 10 minutes so, the Radiologist had to get it all in the joint in less then 8 minutes to let in settle, so we used the phone as stop watch.

On top of all the excitement, that will be the last time we will ever perform something like this on that scanner. Tomorrow is our last day with this old Dinosaur, we are getting a Brand New Top of the Line 64 slice scanner. They start tearing the room down at 3pm Friday!

Good bye Old GE 4 slice......off you go to a 3rd world country to help out patients that need you!! Its been a slice..heheheh no pun intended!!

Happy Friday tomorrow everyone!

WOW...Tino got the last piece tonight, it was to die for, with Vanilla Bean ice cream. I suggest this reciepe for thanks giving or Christmas, its a nice hearty warm dessert, and VERY easy to make!
